Sometimes, it can be really fun building a website. Adding pages after pages of images, content, and web tools to it is enjoyable. But over time, you’ll realize that the bigger your website gets, the harder it is to find that particular thing or information that you would like to update or edit. Organization is really necessary when you build a website.

Your site should flow smoothly so that visitors will get to the places that they want to see. Without organization, a website would feel cluttered and discouraging. Your visitors will feel disoriented about the whole thing and they would immediately leave your site without the intention of coming back.

If you’re using a website builder, organizing the pages of your website is so much better. Just be sure that you rank your site’s pages accordingly, putting the most important ones on top level. Put links to the three to five most important pages on your website from the home page. Then add up to two to three sub-pages under them. Don’t go deeper than that because doing so may already cause chaos to your site.

Another way of organizing your site is by adding a back, next, and home buttons at key places. This is something that is not hard to do with a website creator. These buttons work best if you’re leading your visitors to your collection of interesting content or if you have a multiple page sign-up form in your site.

It is always tempting to put one link after another in each of your pages. However, that’s not the best thing to do if you don’t know how to do it right. In every page, give your visitors a way to go back to the previous pages that they have seen, without relying on the back button of the browser all the time.
